Standerton child porn case: Accused must appear in regional court in May

Court postpones case to May 5.

A 59-year-old man who was arrested for the possession of nearly 1 million images and videos of child pornography appeared in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court again on February 26.

His case was postponed to the Standerton Regional Court on May 5.

The man, who worked at the Lekwa Municipality, was arrested on July 30 last year during Operation Bad Vibes.

The operation was a joint initiative between the police and the Department of Homeland Security Investigations.

It was heard in court that the man was allegedly part of an international Telegram group that distributed child pornography.

• The Standerton Advertiser is still legally obligated to refrain from using the man’s name because has not yet entered a plea.
