Athletes from Standerton compete in Crossfit event

Standerton take part in global fitness challenge.

Standerton’s fittest people showed their skills in the CrossFit Open event held at The Shed in Standerton on March 6. This hunt for the ‘Fittest on Earth’ started on February 26 and will finish on Marth 16.

Gary van Aswegen, one of the organisers, said this massive, global, annual event pushes athletes to their limits through a series of unpredictable, high-intensity workouts. This event takes place over three weeks and competitors across all divisions, including individual, team and adaptive, take part in three workouts released each Friday.

Exercises vary depending on which fitness level and division members choose to sign up for. These levels range from beginners level to elite.

The top performers of each stage secure their spots in the next round of qualifying events.

Van Aswegen said for most members of The Shed Crossfit Centre, this event serves as a community building competition an opportunity for all walks of life and at different fitness levels to express their fitness and bring out the best in one another.
