Suspect to appear in Standerton Magistrate’s Court for evading millions in tax

The alleged tax evasion resulted in a loss of R307m to SARS.

The Hawks have served a 59-year-old man with a summons to appear in court on charges of tax evasion.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Singo of the Hawks in Mpumalanga, their Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team in Secunda served the summons after SARS uncovered the suspect’s alleged tax evasion, which resulted in a loss of R307m to SARS.

The man is accused of failing to submit outstanding personal income tax between 2008 and 2023.

He is expected to appear before the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on April 14.
