Police, government entities and security forces mobilise for the Easter long weekend in Lekwa
Authorities conducted mandatory roadside checks.
In a proactive bid to ensure public safety ahead of the high-traffic Easter period, the Lekwa Police launched a high-visibility Arrive Alive campaign today, April 2.
This multi-disciplinary operation, conducted on the R23 Johannesburg road, saw a unified front between Standerton, Sakhile and Morgenzon police, the local traffic department, the provincial traffic department, the Department of Home Affairs, the Standerton and Sakhile CPF and private sector Kasselman Security Services.
The operation was visited by Executive Mayor Sifiso Mngemezulu, Acting Chief Director for Mpumalanga Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport, Mojalefa Tsotetsi, and the MEC for Public Works, Roads and Transport, Thulasizwe Simon Thomo.
Authorities conducted mandatory roadside checks to verify driver’s licenses and vehicle registrations while screening for motorists driving under the influence.
Searches were also conducted for permits, illicit goods, drugs, and illegal firearms.
Fines were issued to motorists violating the National Road Traffic Act.
The day was a huge success with around 750 vehicles stopped.
Leading the operation was Standerton Station Commander Colonel Josias Keith Africa.
He thanked all roleplayers involved, the public and motorists for their cooperation.
