Lekwa Municipality hosts local disability forum meeting
The meeting was held to address challenges faced by persons with disabilities, promote equal access to public services, and ensure that disability-related issues are fully integrated into municipal planning and service delivery processes.
The MMC for Community Services and Safety in Lekwa Municipality, Mapaseka Molaba, led a Local Disability Forum (LDF) meeting held at the municipality council chamber on March 26.
The meeting brought together municipal officials, stakeholders, and representatives of people living with disabilities, providing an important platform for engagement and collaboration.
According to Mlaba, the primary objective of the meeting was to address challenges faced by persons with disabilities, promote equal access to public services, and ensure that disability-related issues are fully integrated into municipal planning and service delivery processes.
In her address, Molaba emphasised the importance of inclusivity and collective responsibility in building a society that accommodates everyone.
“The Local Disability Forum is close to my heart because we all need to be treated equally. The objective of this forum is to ensure that persons with disabilities are fully included in all aspects of community life.
“All stakeholders within the structure should work together to ensure that communities are empowered, informed, and responsive to the needs of persons with disabilities,” she said.
The meeting also served as an opportunity to review existing programmes, identify gaps in public service delivery, and propose practical solutions to improve accessibility for people with disabilities.
