Three Swords Dojo in Standerton celebrates outstanding achievements

SKISA Three Swords Dojo was also recognised as a finalist for Mpumalanga Federation of the Year.

Three Swords Dojo is celebrating an exceptional weekend of achievements, with its athletes and officials earning recognition both on the national competition stage and at provincial sport awards.

From March 20 to 22, four Three Swords students competed at the Children’s Elite Championship held at Durban University, facing extremely large divisions and high-level competition from across the country.

Despite the tough competition, the dojo’s athletes delivered impressive performances.

Shyam Daya secured an excellent fifth place in kumite. Ricardo van Wyngaard finished seventh in kumite, showing strong determination throughout the event. Amelia Sehar, currently ranked No. 4 in Karate South Africa, competed in a division of 22 athletes, placing eighth in kata and seventh in kumite.

Her sibling, Melyne Sehar, achieved outstanding success, earning a bronze medal in kata and a well-deserved gold medal in kumite.

During the same weekend, the Mpumalanga Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation hosted its annual Provincial Sport Awards, where members of the dojo also received significant recognition.

Melony Degenaar was announced as the 2025 Sport Administrator of the Year, while Amelia Sehar added another accolade to her achievements by winning the Youth/Junior Sport Star of 2025 award.

Club instructor Sensei Jannie Degenaar was named first runner-up in the Technical Official of the Year category, narrowly missing the top honour. Adding to the celebrations, SKISA Three Swords Dojo was also recognised as a finalist for Mpumalanga Federation of the Year.

The dojo expressed immense pride in all its athletes and officials, noting that recognition at both competitive and administrative levels reflects the dedication, discipline, and hard work invested by its members.

“This recognition shows that consistent effort, teamwork, and commitment to excellence continue to produce outstanding results,” sensei Jannie Degenaar said.
