Bethal Buffels remain unbeaten after dominant win over Malelane

The final score was 60-17 in the Buffels' favour.

The Bethal Buffels’ first team delivered an outstanding performance on May 16, defeating Malelane away from home in a commanding Premier League clash.

The match was delayed after the appointed referee, Polla de Jager, who officiated the second-team fixture, sustained an injury.

By mutual agreement between the two clubs, Puma referee Xander Matthee was appointed to officiate the game.

Matthee earned praise from both teams for his fairness and excellent game control under difficult circumstances.

The first team was led onto the field by captain Ruben Silvo. From the first whistle, Bethal showed their intent and dominated proceedings with disciplined play, solid structures and a well-organised backline.

The Buffels controlled the first half and headed into the break with a convincing 36-3 lead. Their momentum continued in the second half as they secured an emphatic 60-17 victory over Malelane.

The win also marked the end of the first round of league fixtures, with Bethal remaining unbeaten this season after recording victories and a draw against Lydenburg.

The team’s improved combinations and tactical adjustments were evident throughout the encounter, with the backline looking well-jelled and confident on attack.

Choosing the men of the match proved difficult, as several players delivered standout performances.

However, the honours went to Gift Dladla (19), playing in his first season and scoring a hat-trick, and Arno de Vries, whose move from the backline to the forward pack proved highly successful.

The Bethal Buffels now sit at the top of the league standings, with Middelburg occupying second place.
Bethal’s second rugby team, however, suffered a defeat against Malelane.

Despite a determined effort from captain Polla de Jager and his teammates, Bethal could not keep up with the home side’s momentum.

Malelane controlled large parts of the game, taking a 14-0 lead into halftime before going on to secure a 33-7 victory.
