Community plans parkrun for Evander
Athletes can take part in new parkrun later this year.
The community is planning on starting a parkrun in Evander soon. Several role players and community volunteers met in May to discuss the layout of the 5km parkrun route.
The route will go around the stadium in Evander, and athletes will run or walk it twice to complete their 5km parkrun, as it is 2.5km long.
According to Noel Daniels, who will be the event director of this brand-new parkrun, this project is still in its baby shoes, and the required documentation must still be released by the Govan Mbeki Municipality before they can start hosting the parkrun in Evander.
Once this parkrun kicks off, the Evander community is welcome to take part in the 5km run or walk and to bring their friends, family and dogs along.
As with all other parkruns worldwide, volunteers will be on hand to tail walk and help older people on the route.
Keep an eye on the Ridge Times newspaper to watch the progress of this upcoming parkrun launch and when it will be launched.
