WATCH: Community picket in front of Standerton courthouse against GBV

The Lekwa Municipality executive mayor, Sifiso Mngemezulu, is part of the picketers.

The six men who appeared in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court today in connection with a murder and brutal rape, abandoned their bail application.

The case was postponed to July 29.


Sakhile community members, together with organisations that fight against gender-based violence, are picketing outside the Standerton Magistrate’s Court where six men are appearing today in connection with the brutal attack on two people on 16 May.

During the attacked, the man was stabbed and killed and the woman was raped and stabbed multiple times in her breasts.

The picketers today submitted petitions to the court, demanding that the accused are not released on bail. The Lekwa Municipality executive mayor, Sifiso Mngemezulu, is part of the picketers.
