Volunteers and Sasol management prepared to celebrate Mandela Day on July 16 by packing more than 1 000 comfort packs for paediatric wards.

These packs will be donated to five public hospitals in Mpumalanga. Mandela Day is celebrated countrywide on Nelson Mandela’s birthday. It is celebrated on July 18.

Sasol dedicated 67 minutes of their time to serving the community in this manner.

Thabile Makgala, Sasol’s executive vice president of people, risk, SHE and corporate affairs, said: “To highlight Sasol’s continued role in empowering communities and volunteerism, employees across our operations rallied behind the company’s 2026 Mandela Day theme of ‘67 Minutes’.

“Our motto is One Purpose Limitless Impact. This demonstrates the spirit of care for children battling critical illness.”

The volunteers and management teams joined hands in putting together care packs containing toiletries, soft toys, colouring books, socks, blankets, snacks and lozenges.

The packs will be delivered to children in oncology units in Standerton Hospital, Evander Hospital, Bethal Hospital, Witbank Hospital and Impungwe Hospital.

“These packs reflect Sasol’s collective ambition of creating a meaningful change in society, particularly for those in need,” said Makgala.

“Mandela Day is never only about one day on the calendar. It reminds us of the responsibility we carry every day, which is to see the humanity in others, and to build stronger, more caring communities.

“The 2026 Mandela Day coincides with the 30th anniversary of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund and focuses on supporting children in long-term hospital care, particularly those affected by cancer.”
