Lieutenant General Modise to lead SAPS in Mpumalanga
The announcement was made by acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane at the Bethal Police Station on July 31.
Lieutenant General Apaphia Modise has officially been appointed as the new Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, pledging to restore public confidence in policing through professionalism, accountability and discipline.
The announcement was made by acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane at the Bethal Police Station on July 31.
Modise brings 37 years of policing experience, having joined the SAPS in 1989.
During her career, she has served in a range of operational and leadership positions and is regarded as an experienced investigator and dedicated police officer.
She began her specialised policing career in the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, where she gained extensive experience investigating crimes involving vulnerable victims.
Her leadership career includes serving as station commander in Senekal and Odendaalsrus before being promoted to brigadier in 2012 as cluster commander of the Moqhaka Cluster.
In 2016, she was promoted to major-general and led both the Thabong and Welkom Clusters in the Free State. Since 2020, she has served as the Deputy Provincial Commissioner responsible for Crime Detection in the Free State.
Modise holds a National Diploma in Policing and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration.

Speaking after her appointment, Modise said her priorities would include strengthening professionalism within the SAPS, enforcing accountability at all levels and instilling discipline among police officers to improve service delivery and crime-fighting efforts.
She also committed herself to rebuilding trust between the police and communities across Mpumalanga.
With her background as a seasoned investigator, disciplined operational commander and officer committed to securing justice for victims, her appointment is expected to strengthen policing in the province.
Modise officially assumed her new role on August 1.
