Celiwe Precious Mahlaba, a teacher at Mzinoni High School, received the award for excellence in secondary school teaching at the 2026 national teaching awards for the Govan Mbeki Circuit in the Gert Sibande District, held in Ermelo on July 24.

Mahlaba was recognised for excellence in teaching Grade 12 learners.

The school said the prestigious recognition is a testament to Mahlaba’s unwavering dedication, hard work, and passion for education.

Through her commitment to academic excellence, she has inspired many learners to strive for success and has consistently demonstrated what it means to be an exceptional educator.

Upon receiving the award, Mahlaba expressed heartfelt gratitude to God, saying the achievement would not have been possible without His guidance, strength, wisdom, and grace throughout her teaching journey.

“All the glory and honour to God for blessing me with the opportunity to serve and make a positive difference in the lives of my learners,” she said.

The school praised her outstanding classroom leadership, innovative teaching methods, and genuine care for learners, saying these qualities have contributed significantly to improving Grade 12 academic performance.

Mahlaba has also become a role model not only to her learners, but also to fellow teachers within the Bethal community.
