Blood service in Secunda awards donors for life-long milestones
Jaco Momberg received the accolade for donor of the year.
Little more than 200 people have potentially and unknowingly saved thousands of lives. The Teksa Branch of the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) honoured these unsung heroes with a gala event and awards ceremony in the Graceland Arena on August 1.
The branch collected 23 767 units during the past year, and if one unit can save up to three lives, the statistic is a staggering 71 301.
Donald Marsh, Mpumalanga Zone Donor Manager, lauded the dedicated donors for giving someone else a second chance at life and beautiful experiences.
He presented the top accolade for donor of the year to Jaco Momberg, who has donated 325 units of blood thus far.
“He saved 975 people, without complaining.”
Detlev Hoffmann received recognition for a 275th unit milestone, and Marthinus van Wyk was honoured for reaching his 250th milestone.
The donors awarded for their 225th milestone are Daniel Heyneke, Elizabeth Fanoe, Garth Moseley, Gerhard Oosthuizen, Gino Primavesi, Harry Calder, Leon Els, Pieter Ggriffin, Pine Pienaar and Ronald Viljoen.
The 200 milestone award recipients are Anna Hattingh, Anton Roets, Cobus Venter, Francois van Tonder, Leon Nel, Lourens van der Merwe and Tertius Perelaer.
