Be the solution

Skills and plans are there, it is only a pity that resources are limited to tackle all the challenges at once.

I have carefully read the letter by G.L Botha, which seems to be fuelled by nostalgia for the good old apartheid days, when ‘very good’ municipal services were being provided to a white minority at the expense of the black majority.

In the past 20 years of the democratic dispensation, it has been an upward battle to redress the service delivery backlog as created by racial segregation, of which the ilk of G.L. Botha will always complain about as ‘the dropping of standards’ when these services are extended to all South Africans to enjoy.

The effect of racial planning for infrastructure is an albatross around the government’s neck and will unfortunately be with us for quite some time, until we defeat squalor and want in South Africa.

Skills and plans are there, it is only a pity that resources are limited to tackle all the challenges at once.

The writer seems to have the zeal to run for public office, this is your chance since the country will be having elections in 2014.

The country need people of your calibre to lend your knowledge for the development of mankind, rather than being an armchair critic wasting a lot of time writing self-serving letters to newspapers instead of addressing real bread and butter issues at these centres of power.

Municipal Councils and Parliament.
