BETHAL – The local golf club hosted the Sanlam Cancer Challenge on 3 May and Gert van der Merwe was the winner of Division A.
He got 43 points.
Frans Cronje (39) finished second in this division and Oloff Bergh (37) third.
FC Sibeko took the lead in the Men’s B category and got 44 points.
Dirk van Tonder (43) finished second and Marnus Venter finished third with 40 points.
In the Men’s C category, Seis Prinsloo won with 44 points, while Sybrand Botha finished second with 37 points and Marius Delport third with 36 points.
Christa Prinsloo won the Women’s B category and Daniele Human finished first in the Women’s C category and Marie Kotze came second.
Sanlam and Cansa have partnered and have been organising this golf challenge since 1993.
The purpose of the challenge is to raise funds and awareness annually for the fight against cancer.
More than 40 000 golf players take part in more than 800 club competitions held in South Africa in support of Cansa’s prevention programmes and patient care services.
Cansa offers a unique integrated service to the public and all people affected by cancer.
As a leading role-player in cancer research, the scientific findings and knowledge gained from Cansa’s research is used to realign their health programmes, as well as strengthen Cansa’s watchdog role to the greater benefit of the public.
“Our wide-reaching health programme includes prevention and education campaigns, Cansa care centres that offer stoma and lymph oedema clinics, medical equipment hire and toll-free line and support to children and their families affected by cancer,” said Ms Jacqueline Erasmus, Community Mobiliser at Cansa Cosmos.
