eMBALENHLE – Athletes of the Future Athletic Club need the community’s support to realise their dreams of representing the country at future Olympics.
The club has more than 50 athletes between the ages of nine and 25.
Some have represented the Govan Mbeki municipal area at national championships.
Glenrose Xaba represented the country at the World Cross Country Championships in Poland last year.
She was the first South African across the line in the junior women’s 6km race.
John Thipe came third in the South African National Championships and Leonard Mokhanya also participated in the Soweto Marathon recently.
The athletes are in need of sports wear, supplements, transport and accommodation whenever they take part in competitions.
Ms Margaret Nkosi-Vilakazi, a coach and a teacher at the Thokomala Reform School, is helping the club with administrative work and thinks they can produce more champions.
