eMbalenhle rugby team represents Mpumalanga
Team manager says black now also begin to play rugby.
eMBALENHLE – Last weekend eMbalenhle rugby team represented Mpumalanga playing against teams from different provinces.
The team was led by Mr Pat Mahlangu, their coach, and was well prepared to bring the cup back home.
“We played with three teams and our boys made us proud though we did not win all the games,” said Mr Mahlangu.
eMbalenhle beat the Zebras from the Eastern Cape 20-25.
They won 40-19 against Eldorado Rugby Club and the final was between eMbalenhle (27-29) against Harmony Gold.
Sifiso Lukhele, Thabiso Tsotetsi, Thokozani Nhlabathi and Henson Ngozo scored tries for eMbalenhle.
Andile Nkosi, Sifiso Nhlapo and Sphelo scored penalties for eMbalenhle.
Mr Thuso Thato Motinya, team manager, said it was fantastic to play in a capacity filled tournament.
“Rugby is seen as a sport for white people, but now most black people begin to have an interest in it,” he said.
Players were also playing with experienced players that boosted their confidence.
eMbalenhle Rugby Club is now looking forward to playing friendly games to enter the league next year and play against well known teams such as the Sasol Rugby Club.
