Martin gets police officers in shape for Comrades
Since then he has not looked back and ran 10 Comrades Marathons to date
Athletics have been an important part of Martin Vilakazi since he was introduced to the sport in primary school.
He has competed in many competitions in and out of the country after Mr Bheki Dladla introduced him to athletics.
“My first major competition was in Port Elizabeth in 2001 where I obtained position 7,” Martin said.
He represented the Mpumalanga Academy in Cross-Country in 2005 in a competition that was held in Angola.

Martin has represented the province in different competitions while still in school.

• Watch what you eat – a healthy and nutritious diet is important
• Invest in the correct clothing and shoes suitable for running
• Get enough rest – sleep is as important as training
• What time are you aiming for – you must know when you want to finish the race
• Arrange accommodation and transport
• Enjoy the race – make sure you have fun
