Victor Khanye Darts Association hosts successful first trial
The purpose of the trials is to select the top six men and women on ranking, as well as a manager, the top four masters (ages 50 plus), men and women, a manager as well as the top two junior boys and girls.
The year 2022 got off to a positive start for the Mpumalanga Darts Federation.
The Victor Khanye Darts Association hosted the first of three trials on Saturday, January 29 at Cup Above and Purple Plum in Sundra.
The second trial will be hosted By Msukaligwa Darts Association in Ermelo and Steve Tshwete Darts Association at Eagles Inn in Middelburg will host the third and final trial.
Teams that competed during the first trials, are Steve Tshwete, Govan Mbeki, Emalahleni, Msukaligwa, Emakhazeni and Victor Khanye.
The purpose of the trials is to select the top six men and women on ranking, as well as a manager, the top four masters (ages 50 plus), men and women, a manager as well as the top two junior boys and girls.
The top contesters will then represent Mpumalanga at the annual Darts South Africa national championship in Johannesburg from 2 to 9 July, where they will compete with the best from the other eight provinces.
According to Freddie Burmeister, president of the Mpumalanga Darts Federation, players who succeed in the nationals will then represent the Proteas, South Africa in the international tournaments that will take place later in the year.
“The first tournament was played in good sportsmanship and the competition was tight,” Burmeister told Streeknuus.
“Darts is a competitive sport on an individual as well as teams level. The Victor Khanye Darts Association aims to make it a family sport in which the whole family can participate and socialise.
“Even though the sport is played in a bar environment, there are very strict rules in the sport as with any other sport out there.
“Dart-throwing is a mathematical game, teaches a person self-confidence, how to work together as a team and discipline,” Burmeister concluded.
