Taekwon-do fighters at excel SA champs

The taekwon-do fighters excelled at the Open South African ITF Championships.

Cullinan’s C fighters excelled at the South African ITF Championships held on the weekend of June 24.

Svetlana Zalevskaya and Alexander Grobler competed in the Open Championship with athletes from across the African continent.

Both taekwon-do athletes obtained silver and bronze medals, trophies and memorabilia.

BSB (assistant instructor) Zalevskaya, a second-degree black belt, won the trophy for best female fighter for the seventh consecutive year.

She was also awarded the Salmon P Barnard trophy for best female fighter at the ITF Championships and the Dr Cathy Jacobs trophy for best overall female student fighter seven years in a row.

The Svetlana Zalevskaya floating trophy for best senior female fighter was named after her. Alexander Grobler, a first-degree black belt, was the youngest fighter in the 18 to 35 years category.

Grobler obtained the Ben van Aarde trophy for the best tiger male, best junior male and other courtesy trophies.

Zalevskaya and Grobler look forward to training for the ITF World Championship under the strict eyes of their coaches, SBM Manie Naudé and BSB Jaco Botha.
