Secunda’s Sasol 1 triumphs over Bethal Bears
Sasol Cricket Club’s pitches in Secunda were abuzz with past weekend matches played.
Sasol 1 Secunda represented Mpumalanga at the CSA Community Cup regional playoffs in Pretoria on November 26.
In the first semi-final, Sasol took on winners of the Easterns League, Kempton Park Cricket Club. Kempton won the toss and elected to bat first.
Sasol’s bowlers bowled with a lot of discipline and did not concede any wide or no-ball extras in their 20 overs.
Dewald Erasmus took four wickets including a hattrick. Kempton was restricted for 147 on a difficult pitch.
Unfortunately, Sasol could only get 122 in their 20 overs, with Captain George Louw scoring 41.

Kempton was always the favourite going into the contest and Sasol did extremely well to stay in the contest until very close to the end.
The other semi-final saw CBCOB from Northerns smashing the Hornbills from Limpopo with 135 runs.
The final saw Kempton going down against CBCOB with eight wickets. It was a cracker of a match that lasted to the second last ball of the match.
Sasol 1 played against Bethal Bears on November 18 in the first 50-over match of the season. Sasol won the toss and elected to bat first. Sasol posted 245 all out.
Dewald Erasmus top-scored with 70 off 48 balls. Vernon Fourie made an unbeaten 54 off 50 balls.

Bethal was bowled out for 105. Dewald Erasmus took 7/26 in 8 overs while Ignus Koekemoer took 3/25 in eight overs.
On November 19, Sasol 2 played against Standerton. Sasol 2 batted first and made 232 all out. Werner Müller made 62 off 50 and CJ Bishoff made 45 off 29.
Standerton won the match with seven wickets. The Sasol women’s team fell short in a thriller of a match against the provincial favourites, Royal Strikers.
Sasol scored 123/4 in their 20 overs. Royal Strikers managed to chase the score down in the final over of the match.
Sasol’s best batter was Lalique Broxham with 40 not out off 33 balls. Sasol 1 will be playing in the Community Cup playoffs on November 26 against Kempton Park at Groenkloof Oval in Pretoria.
