Young players Kick for Fun in soccer tournament in Secunda
Young soccer players showcased their skills and teamwork during the annual Secunda Spurs FC Academy Kick for Fun Under-13 tournament on September 24.
Young soccer players took to the field during the Secunda Spurs FC Academy’s annual Kick for Fun Under-13 tournament.
The tournament kicked off on Heritage Day, September 24, at Highveld Christian College’s sports ground with a motivational talk on safety awareness by Secunda SAPS, while coach Phil Ndhlovu spoke about discipline and being a team player.

There was also a fundraising stall selling snacks and sports attire, giving children a chance to learn about fundraising, teamwork and responsibility.
“Funds raised help us ensure that no child is left behind because of financial circumstances. They support player registration, assistance with transport to away games, equipment, kit and activities that allow our children to experience more than just football — building confidence, friendships, life skills and a sense of belonging,” said secretary Gail Coles.

Seventy young players took part in the tournament, representing Secunda Spurs FC, Dark Knights, Zone Two and Mpumalanga Rising Stars.
Dark Knights won the first game, beating Secunda Spurs FC 3-1. Zone Two won the second game after beating Mpumalanga Rising Stars 2-1.

Mpumalanga Rising Stars won the third game, beating Secunda Spurs FC 3-1. Zone Two were crowned the tournament winners after beating Dark Knights 2-1 in the final game.
Organisers thanked SAPS for the safety talk, the Highveld Park High School girls’ cricket team for volunteering on the day, and sponsor Switch for providing refreshments.
The organisers welcome any form of sponsorship for upcoming games, towards refreshments or team prizes. For more information, contact Coles on 082 554 3959.
