Editor's note

Be Samson this week

We should understand then that God has not forsaken us.

I rented The Bible, a DVD portraying some of the well-known scenes from the Bible this weekend.

Like most Christian-based series or movies, some details were left out or inserted for an effective storyline.

Although I do not agree with this, I rather enjoyed having the images portraying the script.

We often read the Bible and owe it to our own minds to create an image thereof.

I thoroughly enjoyed the scene of Samson.

Such a strong character.

One man killing a 1 000 Philistines with the jawbone of an ass.

God granted him immense power and when Delilah cut his hair it seemed as though God had forsaken him. He was captured by the Philistines and they put out his eyes so that he was blinded.

In the end, however, he called unto God praying: “O Lord God, remember me, I pray thee and strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.”

God granted him the power and he pulled down the pillars, killing about 4 000 people. I realised that God gives strength and sometimes, we too, are blinded by the Philistines (the world).

We should understand then that God has not forsaken us.

Instead we must call upon Him to receive the strength to face the challenges in front of us.

Be like Samson this week and rely on God to give you strength.
