Editor's note

Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year!

To our loyal readers and advertisers, thank you for your support during the year.

This year has been marked by several economic challenges and crime that continue to be our most discreditable quandary.

However…

The end of another year is nigh, and as we celebrate this holiday season, I would like to take this opportunity to highlight some of our accomplishments:

· The appointment of two new journalists, a new editor and digital coordinator

· 49 editions of the Ibis Newspapers distributed this year

· 49 editions of the Standerton Advertiser distributed this year

· Six supplements completed

· Operation Relief launched as an annual campaign towards aiding those in need

· Production staff completed a course on digital design and started using new designing software

· Journalists attended “No Guts No Glory” and completed their “Back To Basics” course at the Cradle of Humankind.

· Advertising representatives completed a Caxton marketing course

· Classifieds department completed a tele-sales marketing course

· Our digital platforms have shown tremendous growth

Growth of our unique visitors has tripled.

A new international and classifieds section has been implemented on our online site.

BBM followers have doubled.

Whatsapp have been included into our social platforms.

Our twitter profile have seen noticeable growth in followers

We reached 19 142 visits, 10 158 unique visits and 41 145 pageviews for the month of October.

Our digital stats from 1 January – 5 December show:

Sessions: 66,818

Users: 27,148

Pageviews: 129,398

Journalists are equipped with tablets that make on-the-scene reporting possible along with video-journalism to give our online viewers a feel for the scenes we attend.

Traffic on the Standerton Advertiser Facebook page is flourishing

We created two new Facebook pages: Standerton/Ibis classifieds and Standerton Accidents.

That said, I believe that we should strive toward improvement in all facets.

The long-term objective is to ensure we publish the highest possible quality papers.

A newspaper is measured according to its quality standards.

The staff and I are striving to achieve this important goal to gain credibility, as well as increase readership.

We have a lot to be thankful for and I believe, without God, no goals are reachable.

To our loyal readers and advertisers, thank you for your support during the year.

Without you, there is no newspaper!

To the staff, thank you for all of the work you put into the newspaper.

We are a family and as you know families tend to disagree sometimes, but the constancy and demeanour in which we turn setbacks into comebacks are commendable.

Thank you for your dedication towards the newspapers.

To everyone, enjoy this festive season and have a prosperous new year!

At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!
