uMageza to stage the eKasi Fashion Expo
Local designers are invited to take part in fashion expo.
eMBALENHLE – Mr Thando Kolobe, entrepreneur and designer, mobilised local designers and musicians to stage the eKasi Fashion and Music Expo on Friday, 28 March.
He is known for his popular brand uMageza which he especially designed to honour and restore the dignity of taxi drivers.
Mr Kolobe said the fashion expo is aimed at giving local designers and artists a platform to showcase their talent.
As an experienced designer, he has learned that the fashion and music industry can be difficult if you are alone.
He noticed that many talents “go down the drain, because of a lack of support and this expo tried to eliminate that.
“There is so much talent in the area, but it is unfortunate that there is no platform to show it.
“We have lost many young and talented people to drugs because of this situation.
“We believe that this expo will be a step toward to overcome challenges faced by designers and artists in the area.”
Mr Kolobe already has five designers and artists on board.
They are Thami Hlahla, TNB, Cikozayo Rtee, Mmathapelo Digoro and Sibu Tau.
Auditions for presenters and models will be held on 14 March.
Mr Kolobe invited designers and musicians to attend the plenary meeting on Friday, 27 February.
“We also urge local business people and organisations to sponsor us or to help out.
“Putting things together and planning the event demand a lot of money.
“As we are still in the early stages of the industry, we cannot afford what we wish for but limited resource cannot stop us from pursuing our dreams.”
