Diarise Art and Craft Ramble in Wakkerstroom
It can be in any medium and the use of recycling material is encouraged.
The Annual Art and Craft Ramble will be held, along with a mountain run/walk challenge in Wakkerstroom from 15 to 17 June.
As per usual, the event is held over the Youth Day weekend, so artists and crafters are allocated space indoors as Wakkerstroom can be a bit chilly by then.
The purpose, apart from bringing people to the village, is to inspire people to do more arts and crafts and to teach new skills, as well as to exhibit new and upcoming artists to the public and potential buyers.
Wakkerstroom youth, who have never exhibited before, will be able to show three pieces at the event, free of charge.
For others wanting to exhibit their art or sell their craft, stand costs are kept to a minimum and are still R170 for a space of 3m x 2m.
The product sales, courses and demonstrations will allow young and old, skilled and unskilled to tackle a wide range of new projects during the winter months ahead.
So far the list of craft courses is growing and could include pottery, woodworking, felt-making, cheese-making, beer-making, bread-making and cake decorating.
Entries for the competition with the theme of ‘In Flight’ can be submitted for the categories primary school, high school and adult.
It can be in any medium and the use of recycling material is encouraged.
The public will vote for the winners and the prizes will be announced on Saturday evening.
The Wakkerstroom Bird Club has also been running a photographic competition over the past year, and the winning photos from each month will be exhibited at the ramble.
Prizewinners will also be announced on Saturday, 16 June.
Organisers would be grateful if anyone who would like to sponsor prizes, products, time, or money to be used for marketing the event, could contact them, as they have growing goals for this fifth event.
