Abuti Lolo puts Evander on the map
He outshined 272 other comedians at the Chatz Connect Audience Choice Award
EVANDER – Abuti Lolo, a local comedian, won the Chatz Connect Audience Choice Award during the 8th Savanna Comics Choice Awards held at the Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City on Saturday, 8 September.
The choice award was the only category open to the public for casting their votes.
Lolo said: “I won out of 272 comedians, making me the first comedian in the region to win this award and I have been in the industry for only a few months. This promises to be one of many awards.”
He did his first stand-up comedy in December 2016 after a friend had “forced” him to do so, because he believed he could fare well.
Since then, Lolo, who hails from Evander, gained the hearts of many fans.
He structures his comedy around making jabs about his appearance, his experiences growing up and some social issues that need to be tackled.
He said he never thought that he would become a comedian.
“I always loved comedy and when I realised that I have the ability to make people laugh, I grabbed it with both hands.”
Lolo hopes to become a household brand in South Africa and a comedian that is performing on international platforms in the next five years.
