Province gives update on Mpumalanga’s Covid-19 cases

HIGHVELD- A total of 18 cases for Covid-19 in Mpumalanga has been recorded. The provincial Joint operational and Intelligence Structure of Mpumalanga released this information in a statement today, 5 April.
According to their statement, these cases comprise of 10 women and eight men. The 18 positive cases are located in all three districts – nine cases in Ehlanzeni, five cases in Gert Sibande, and four cases in Nkangala.
Thus far 208 tests for Covid-19 have been conducted in the province of which 176 people tested negative with Ehlanzeni (Nelspruit area) recording 103, Nkangala (Middelburg and Witbank area) 43 and Gert Sibande 30.
The police in Mpumalanga have also detained eight undocumented people on 4 April on the N12 highway near Ogies for contravening the Immigration Regulations.
According to the report, the police were patrolling the area when they spotted a grey Toyota Avanza full of people. The cops stopped the car and searched it. They found eight occupants without the document to prove that they are legally in the country.
These men were then detained and a preliminary investigation has revealed that they are allegedly from Bangladesh.
The departments of Home Affairs and Health were called in to make sure the necessary precautionary measures could be followed in terms of the Covid-19 guidelines and regulations.
The MEC for Health in Mpumalanga, Ms Sasekani Manzini said: “One of the eight people arrested, is showing signs of Covid-19 infection. The Department of Health has taken tests from the suspect to establish whether he is infected or not. All of the men will be quarantined for the duration of the incubation period.”
