eMbalenhle’s Mizz Gabbzz releases Afro Soul EP
Music saved me from a lot of things. There was a time where I consumed too much alcohol because of my childhood trauma.
Mizz Gabbzz (29), born Sphesihle Gabriella Mazibuko, is a self-taught singer/songwriter from eMbalenhle who has recently released an Afro-Soul extended play.
Ms Mazibuko said she realised her singing talent six years ago and recorded her first album in 2014. This album has not been released due to internal matters between her and the recording company.
Ms Mazibuko does most of her live performances in restaurants and bars locally. She said her recent EP is about self-discovery and the emotions she has when singing.
“Music saved me from a lot of things. There was a time where I consumed too much alcohol because of my childhood trauma.
“My home was not a happy home for such a long time. I was always emotionally abused but later I felt that I have the whole world for myself and that I can do what I want. I started writing songs and singing,” said Ms Mazibuko.
She said it is now difficult for them as artists to make a living because of lockdown as people don’t go to eateries and sit down for a meal. They only buy takeaways.
“Owners of restaurants and bars told us there’s no money to book us to perform because their businesses are not doing well.

“With this EP, I have worn my heart on my sleeves and bore my soul to everyone who will listen to it. I hope that through the lyrics people can know who Mizz Gabbzz is and I also hope to touch lives in a way that only lyrics and instruments can.
“My EP contains six songs and the song Uthando, meaning love, is the lead single that can be heard on your favourite radio stations.
“I have also separately released a song titled The Blues, which you can download for free on www.slikouronlife.co.za.”
The EP is available for purchase on all digital platforms.
