Charl Cilliers are tired of pit toilets
We will be happy ones the plant is completed though we were told that it will only connect to the RDP houses that will be built soon but not us.
Residents around Charl Cilliers want to see the sewerage plant completed and working because they are tired of using pit toilets.
According to the residents, the Govan Mbeki Municipality delays in cleaning out their toilets. This is a problem, especially in summer.
They said when their toilets are full, sewage spills occur and the sewage flows into the streets and into other people’s yards, which end up causing conflicts among residents.
“We will be happy once the plant is completed, although we were told that it will only connect to the RDP houses that will be built soon,“ said Mr Jaikob Masiteng, a resident.
According to Mr Masiteng, the residents now ask why the municipality first want to connect a new establishment with the sewerage plant, while there are now residents who are struggling and need the municipality to send out a honeysucker truck.
“Our pit toilets stay full almost three months before they can send a truck.”
He asked what will happen to the sewerage plant if it is completed before the RDP houses.
“Will it remain dry? Yet we will still be suffering with pit toilets that are causing health hazards,” said Mr Masiteng.
The municipality did not respond at the time of going to press.
