Father and son in deadly altercation

Information suggested the 48-year-old man shot and killed his 21-year-old son.

A suspected domestic violence incident ended in tragedy a fortnight ago.

According to a media statement from the office of the station commander in Standerton, Col Fani Motubane, two bodies were found in Florapark on Saturday, October 2 at about 10:00.

Police received a complaint about a shooting incident and upon investigation, a father and his son were discovered in different rooms at the house.

Medical personnel were alerted as well.

Information suggested the 48-year-old man allegedly shot and killed his 21-year-old son.

The father then reportedly turned the gun on himself and died.

The firearm was found next to him.

Standerton Police opened a murder docket and an inquiry will also be conducted.

Col Motubane condemned such incidents and requested anyone finding himself/herself in such situations, to contact social services for help.

In a statement, the provincial commissioner of police, Lieut-Gen Semakaleng Manamela, urged communities to seek professional help whenever they are faced with life’s challenges.
