Evander court postpones child murder case against stepmother
Zulfa Dauquela will now first undergo mental observation.
Zulfa Dauquela (35), a Mozambican national, appeared in the Evander Magistrate’s Court on March 25 on charges of murder and being in the country illegally.
Dauquela is suspected of killing her 10-year-old stepson, Junior, on March 16.
The boy was found in an open field near Azania in eMbalenhle with multiple serious injuries, including stab wounds to the neck and the abdomen and bruises on the neck.
Dauquela allegedly took the boy to the open field to pray there. She later returned home alone and reported him as missing.
Angry residents protested outside the court on March 25 with posters stating that they do not want Dauquela out on bail.
Her case was postponed to April 30 for her mental observation. She remains in custody.
