eMbalenhle police say they are making progress in case
Sergeant invites man to visit police station for information.
Following the publication of a story about Lifa Dube, a 22-year-old man from Ext 18 in eMbalenhle who pleaded for justice after being shot at a local tavern in December 2024, police have responded to allegations of delays in the case.
Dube previously claimed that, despite the suspect being arrested and later released on bail, there had been little progress due to alleged inaction by the investigating officer.
However, eMbalenhle police spokesperson Sergeant Busi Mthethwa has denied these claims.
She stated that, following an enquiry from the Ridge Times newspaper, station management conducted an internal review of the case.
“As police in eMbalenhle, we take every complaint from our community seriously,” said Mthethwa.

“Following the enquiry, station management summoned the investigating officer to provide an update on the case. The detective presented the docket, which was inspected.”
She added that the inspection confirmed that significant progress had been made.
“It was discovered that, following the hard work done by our investigator, the case is now proceeding to trial in October at Evander Regional Court.
“For any clarity, Dube can visit the office of the detective commander for help,” she said.
Dube maintains that the case appeared to stall after the court instructed the investigating officer to present a J88 medical report during the suspect’s last court appearance in 2025.
