Standerton child porn case goes to Secunda
Man will appear in court again on June 18.
The 60-year-old Standerton man, who is facing charges of possession and distribution of child pornography, appeared in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on May 5 again.
His case was transferred to the Secunda Regional Court on June 18.
Although his identity is widely known in the community, the man has not yet pleaded and can therefore not be identified in the media.
The law determines that anyone arrested for a sexual offence may not be identified until they have pleaded guilty or not guilty in court.
The man, who worked at the Lekwa Local Municipality, was arrested on July 30 last year when nearly one million images and videos were found at his house.
Apart from the charges already mentioned, he is also facing charges of sexual grooming and one charge of compelled sexual assault.
The police found thousands of images and videos of child pornography on numerous devices at his house.
It also came out in court that the man was part of a group that shared child pornography online through an app.
Before joining such groups, a person must supply a certain amount of child pornography. The man was granted bail during a previous court appearance.
