William Nicol truck ban spread to ‘facebook’

More and more residents are uniting against heavy vehicle traffic on William Nicol Road.

A group of facebook users are uniting in support of the ban of heavy load vehicles on William Nicol Road following the horrendous accident of 14 June.

Around 170 users recently liked a facebook page titled No trucks on William Nicol — Constantia Kloof.

The facebook page was started on Tuesday 25 June and already contains photos of the accident of 14 June and a downloadable petition supporting the cause. Some of the photos were submitted by A1 Assist employees.

User Roy Ehlers, that already liked the page, posted “at last, they woke up!” as a comment on the petition post.

The petition post is a downloadable petition which, once completed, can be emailed to the page owners. It reads “the undersigned persons are supporting a ban on all heavy vehicle traffic between Ontdekkers Road and the bottom of William Nicol Road in an effort to reduce the unnecessary loss of lives in our area”.

JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar, who took it upon himself to apply for signage to ban heavy vehicle traffic on the road (as reported by the Record previously) could not be reached for commentary as yet.

In the short time that the Record spent on the facebook page, the likes grew by another 28 users.
