Accident aftermath: How to contact JMPD

When insurance claims need to be filed, how do you get hold of your JMPD case number? Here are the details.

When a family member or significant other has been in an accident, you need to sort out insurance claims, but who do you call?

Witpoortjie residents, whose daughter (19) was involved in an accident on Golf Club Terrace on Monday 19 August, posed this question to a Record journalist.

“The female JMPD officer on scene was extremely helpful and patient to get all the information regarding to my daughter’s vehicle and licence.

“The JMPD arrived on the scene just after I did, which was unusually fast, but now I’ve been struggling to come into contact with them.

“The officer told me that she would contact me for further information but I haven’t received that call yet,” the mother of the patient told the Record on Thursday 22 August.

“I need her to call me so that I could get the case number I need for insurance purposes from her.

“She didn’t give me any contact details on the accident scene.”

She said she also could not find any such contact information online. Who do you call in JMPD to confirm this detail?

The Record contacted JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar for comment. Both numbers he gave were called it became evident that neither are in service. The phone did not ring when the numbers were dialed.

“I cannot assist residents with this matter in my professional capacity as a spokesperson,” Minnaar said, promising to follow up on the Record’s query.

Minnaar later confirmed the new and correct numbers with the Record.

Although the contact detail didn’t prove useful to the resident after many attempts, she finally got the necessary information from the Accident Office at the Roodepoort JMPD offices in Berlandina Street. Their official office number is listed as 011 761 6445.

To reach the JMPD Accident Office contact any of the following numbers:

• 011 051 7226

• 011 051 7221
