ProTouch Continental Cycling Team fight the equatorial conditions at Tour de Langkawi
Petronas Tour de Langkawi - an eight stage slog through the mountains of Malaysia.
Six members of the ProTouch Continental Cycling Team took on the equatorial climate of Malaysia in the Petronas Tour de Langkawi from October 11 to 18.
The Union Cycliste Internationale(UCI) .2Pro Series road cycling event is an annual eight stage race stretching from Kuala Lumpur across the small island just off the north-eastern coast of the Asian nation. Attended by all the major teams, the tour was won by Movistar’s Colombian rider Ivan Sosa and ProTouch returned with a few memorable results. The Honeydew-based team recorded one top 10 stage finish, five top 15 and one other top 20 stage finish while Kent Main place 13th in the overall general classification.
The ProTouch club was founded in 2016 and became a continental team in 2019. In that short space of time they have climbed to the fifth ranked team in the world and with their riders scouted from Rwanda, Burkina Faso and Eritrea, can also boast being number one in Africa.
“We have various alliances with clubs in these regions and select riders based on their performance. We own and manage the team and focus on enabling African athletes onto the world stage,” said ProTouch Team Manager, Rebecca Eliot.
Results on the road have been positive and ProTouch’s short term goals are focused on raising funds through innovative digital technologies and fan immersion experiences that bring sports lovers closer to their idols. Ecstatic at how the green and black-clad riders are mixing it with the best ProTouch’s Sports Director, Sebastien Duclos said, “We are extremely proud at how well our riders performed at this top level tour and honoured to have lined up with such great teams”
