Purple hair and a winning hat

Maryna van Zyl won the PNA competition nationally.

How many people can say that their creativity at work is recognised, appreciated and awarded?

Maryna van Zyl (56) was awarded a second place nationally as well as a gigantic prize in a company-wide competition.

Maryna works as a supervisor at PNA in Flora Centre and entered a company-wide arts competition at the launch of their exciting new variety of art supplies and products. The competition ran the entire June and every employee was expected to participate. The challenge was to create a hat that embodied the various products that PNA has to offer for artsy residents, and Maryna did just that.

“I used the pamphlet that was created to showcase our variety of art supplies and products as an embellishment,” Maryna told the Record.

“I also added a ribbon around the hat that was selected from our various velvety scrapbook papers.

“I used brushes, white charcoal and coloured ice-cream sticks to enhance the artsy look further and topped it off with a decorational pink flower.”

Maryna was surprised but pleased that she was placed second nationally.

“It feels so exhilarating to have put my PNA in Flora Centre on the map nationally.”

Maryna is to be awarded a large hamper made up of the art products she showed so much passion in promoting.

Her husband Schalk van Zyl, who approached the Record with her story, wishes to congratulate her and hopes that she will put the hamper to good use.
