Not so bright

Meters left unlocked after being read proposes serious security risks.

Charles Slater writes:

IN response to the article “Criminals target security alarms” published on 5 July.

Contributing, unconsciously or consciously, to this matter are the electricity meter readers who continuously leave the lockable doors to the meters and main switches open after readings. This is both an invitation to criminals to switch off the dwelling’s electricity and a safety hazard to children playing in the streets.

My wish is that Johannesburg Electricity (or their subcontractors) would remind the meter readers to close the doors (using their standard keys) after reading of meters.
