Rocking out to the semifinals
Rumours Lounge tells about its latest semifinalist and the big Acoustic Sounds competition.
Musician Rowan Cloete has made his way to the semifinals at Acoustic Sounds that takes place at Rumours Lounge. The semifinals will take place on Sunday 6 October with other individual and band performers.
“Each band performs seven songs and the acoustic artists five songs. They have a choice of playing original compositions or covers and even acoustic numbers. They are judged based on their overall performance and musicality and are either asked to come back or not,” says Squire from Squire Events.
“We currently have between eight and 12 semifinalists, however this number will continue to grow with each Acoustic Sounds session.”
During the final round the winning band will receive prizes that include a number of musical instruments sponsored by Marshall Music as well as R5 000 cash courtesy of Rumours Lounge.
“We are looking for bands and acoustic artists who are professional on and off stage – they also must be able to play a good show,” says Squire.
Other acoustic artists are welcome to perform and stand a chance to win R2 500 from Rumours Lounge and a Takamine acoustic guitar from Marshall Music. Overall winners also have an opportunity to perform at the Rumours New Year’s Eve Bash.
Acoustic Sounds is where you want to be if you want to enjoy an afternoon filled with acoustic guitarists, accompanied with a Sunday lunch with the family between 1pm and 7pm.
The dates for the semifinals are 4, 11, 18 and 25 August and 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 September. The wild card semifinal will be held on 3 November and the final on 1 December.
