Emergency response services attended the scene following the incident, with Help 24 ER attempting to tow the overturned truck and bring it back onto its wheels. Members of the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) and Community Policing Forum controlled traffic while recovery operations continued.

According to the truck’s passenger, the vehicle was driving uphill along Doreen Road when it reportedly switched off shortly after passing Totius Street. The truck then rolled backwards before striking the estate’s boundary wall.

The driver sustained injuries and was taken to hospital for medical care. The passenger remained at the scene as emergency personnel worked to recover the vehicle.

Keitumetse Molefe, a resident whose home was nearly damaged in the incident, said the crash has left her concerned about the safety of residents living along the road.

“We feel unsafe with trucks driving up here on Doreen,” she said.

Molefe said she was shocked when her helper called to inform her about the incident, prompting her to rush home to assess the situation.

“I think they need to do risk assessments on this road because it’s unsafe,” she said.

The road between Lawrence and Totius streets remains closed while recovery operations are under way. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and exercise caution in the area.

The circumstances surrounding the incident have not been independently confirmed, and it was not immediately clear what caused the truck to switch off.
