ANC Chairperson allegedly assaults comrade

ANC Florida branch in shambles.

The Ward 70 ANC branch has disintegrated.

Amidst accusations of mishandling funds against long-serving Chairperson Aubrey Adams, the regional structure had to intervene on 26 August. However, at the meeting between plaintiffs and the accused, things went south.

During the proceedings the branch members expressed their dismay at the way Adams has been conducting himself. Adams then went on to accuse Vusi Thomas, branch Secretary, of being a “pretender”.

The two comrades went outside the offices and an altercation allegedly took place in which Adams hit Thomas with a fist.

Although it was only one blow, Thomas had difficulty speaking when he related his side of the story to the Record the next day, claiming that his jaw was hurting “extremely”.

A case had been opened at the Florida Police Station and Thomas told the Record on 27 August that he was on his way to a doctor to be examined and have his JT88 form completed, which is a prerequisite when opening a case of assault.

The ANC’s election campaign in the area is more than likely to suffer since the regional offices have disbanded the branch.

When the Record contacted Adams he exercised his right not to comment on the incident.
