Miss Earth South Africa finalist Makgomo Athalanda Sebesho (25) was announced as the Miss Earth South Africa ambassador at the competition’s final gala at Montecasino on 17 August.

Sebesho, who lives in Ruimsig, was one of three finalists who were chosen as ambassadors.

“I will continue doing tree planting, donating non-perishable foods and focusing on energy efficiency and good security projects,” Sebesho said.

The Limpopo-born Sebesho is passionate about community work and helping the less fortunate.

She believes the individual is part of the solution and if you can make a difference to just one life, you’ve been successful.

“I am grateful for the opportunity and being part of this surreal experience. The phenomenal personal growth and knowledge gained on environmental affairs, animals and human beings will make me a better person and help me better the lives of other people.”

According to Sebesho, being part of Miss Earth has opened her mind and ignited a fire eager to learn more about issues facing South Africa and the rest of the world.

“I have been given the opportunity to be influential to the youth and to educate them about creating a sustainable environment. I am able to create awareness about crucial issues our planet faces. My goal is to continue making a difference and changing lives.”
