Stolen storm water grid poses danger

JRA not getting it right.

The gaping cavity that was left when a storm-water grid was stolen on 10 September, still has not been attended to by the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA).

The cavity is situated at the intersection of Disseldoring Street and Everlasting Street. Although a quiet neighbourhood, residents complain that motorists speed on the downhill. This creates a potentially dangerous situation as the cavity is approximately 60cm deep and wide enough for a vehicle tyre to get stuck in.

Various residents have phoned JRA repeatedly but have resigned to putting their own warning cone to alert motorists. One resident said that after repeatedly phoning JRA and even sending them the measurements of the rectangular grid needed, they arrived with a round one. JRA now allegedly claims that they “are out of stock” of the needed grid and has to “source” one.

Motorists are warned to be cautious when travelling down Disseldoring Street.
