Records set at Roodepoort Champs Athletics
The Roodepoort Champs will be followed by the D12 athletics.
With athletics season well underway, the Roodepoort Championships was the next stage of battle after last week’s Cluster Athletics.
These competitions held at the Roodepoort Stadium are looking for the best athletes to represent the province at the national stage in the following months.
The Roodepoort Champs will be followed by the D12 athletics where the athletes from different schools in the district will compete against each other.
Records broke at the championships which bodes well for the upcoming D12 athletics.
Laerskool Helderkruin’s Angelique de Jager set a new record of 12.75s in the girls U/11 70m Hurdles.
She surpassed the 2011 record of 12.83s. In the boys U/13 shotput event, Ridgevale Primary School’s Caleb Mulenga beat 2009 record of 11.98 metres.
He set a mammoth 12.57 metre for a new record.
Laerskool Dr Havinga’s Heinrich Jacobs set a new record of 22.25s in the boys U/12 150 metres hurdles.
In the girls U/13 800 metres race, Weltevreden Park Primary School’s Alison Visser set a record of 2:23.52, beating the old record by almost 3 seconds.
In the girls U/6 80 metres race Weltevreden Park Primary School’s Kene Emekpo set a record of 14.44 seconds.
Laerskool Florida’s Joseph Laney set a 25.44s new record in the U/13 200m race.
