Bursaries for a bright future
HONEYDEW - Two Boskop Primary school pupils are awarded bursaries that will afford them a secure future.
It was all smiles as two pupils from Boskop Primary School were awarded full bursaries by the Flight Centre Travel Group Foundation.
Melissa Sathekge and Victor Igbojinn were the proud recipients of bursaries awarded to them for their excellent academic records and participation in school activities. The bursaries were handed to them at a special assembly at the school in Honeydew.
Victor’s mother Tecla Igbojinn explained that her son’s father passed away when he was just a baby. She was determined to bring him to South Africa so that he could get a better education.
“I struggled to get us here and I am so glad that my son has been awarded this bursary because it will be a weight off my shoulders. I am relieved that my son’s future is secure now through this bursary that he has obtained from the Flight Centre,” the proud mother said.
Melissa Sathekge said that she was happy to have received the bursary as this would help her achieve her dreams of being a biochemist. She wants to work towards finding a cure for cancer, after she lost her mom to the disease a year ago.
Her father Duke Sathekge said that his daughter was bright and he was confident that she would achieve everything that she set out to achieve.
Project manager for the Flight Centre Foundation Diane Cleary said that the Flight Centre’s main aim in providing such bursaries to children who excelled at school was to change their future through education. “Our goal is not only to offer the financial assistance to pay fees but to assist with the social and emotional aspect of the child’s life by offering guidance and mentorship,” she said.
Cleary pointed out that the bursaries awarded to the two pupils would cover their tuition fees at Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge High School until matric and included uniforms, school books, stationery, all school trips, sports equipment and sports trips, as well as the option for tertiary at the end of high school.
