The public meeting held at the Florida Civic Centre for Ward 84 residents was well attended.”The purpose of the meeting was firstly to introduce the new ward committee members to the community as well as giving them an opportunity to give their inputs on the Integrated Development Process (IDP),” said Gert Niemand, the ward councillor.The new ward committee members for Ward 84, are:• George Taylor – Community Development 1• Sindiswa Nthloko – Community Development 2• Arthur Montgomery – Development Planning• Nomvuyo Mandlanga – Economic Development• James Drija – Environment• Lazarus Kwapeng – Health• Theo Khanyile – Housing• Gaitsewe Sebe – Infrastructure• Alexius Smuts – Public Safety• Hazel Moloto – Transport
He added that, after the ward committee members had been introduced, attendees had the opportunity to engage with the newly appointed members, followed by an informative video on the IDP process.
“After the screening of the short video, an open debate followed.
The discussions got quite heated and serious when topics pertaining to housing, job creation, overall crime, safety and security within the ward were discussed,” Gert said.The councillor was satisfied with the attendance but felt that more residents could have made the effort.
