2 December is the annual celebration of National Fritters Day.
Various fillings can be found inside a batter or breading which is either deep- or pan-fried and enjoyed by millions of people daily. Fritters can be found in many cuisines and are believed to have first been consumed by the Ancient Romans, who introduced the dish to Europe.
Fritter fillings are usually made up of meat, seafood, fruit, cheese or vegetables. Some of the most well known and favourite fritters in the fritter family include corn fritters, zucchini fritters and apple fritters.
You can celebrate National Fritter Day by finding a recipe (in your grandmother’s recipe book or online) and making some fritters. Invite your friends and family to enjoy these delicious creations with you. If you are stuck and have no idea which fritters to make, look for recipes for potato fritters, corn fritters or deep fried banana fritters.
