Residents advised to beware of gate motor thieves

Brent Robertson, who raised concerns about the rise of the scourge, said the criminals also take anti-theft brackets.

The scourge of the theft of gate motors seems to be rearing its ugly head again in the Wilro Park, Helderkruin and Roodekraans areas.

This is in the wake of the latest gate motor theft on a property reported in the community group on Facebook yesterday, Monday, 11 March.

Brent Robertson, who raised concerns about the rise of the scourge, said the criminals also take anti-theft brackets. The bracket is installed to secure the gate motor against theft by criminals.

Robertson appealed to residents to ensure their beams and cameras are always functional and if their dogs bark, to make sure that they investigate. In addition to that, he also urged residents to report suspicious activities to their security providers.

Andreas Boerlechner, the chairperson of the forum, also encouraged residents to upgrade their security systems. “Make sure you put beams in your garden and upgrade your alarm system so that it triggers when criminals tamper with the gate motor,” he advised.

Lastly, he encouraged residents to join neighbourhood watches. “We encourage residents to join neighbourhood watches because most of these things happen to people who are not members,” he concluded.
