Women learning the art of self-defence on Women’s Day

Women's Day was kicked off by self-defence classes from Horizon Karate Centre

On Women’s Day, Horizon Karate Centre and Alpha Epta held a ‘Fight like a girl’ event, where every woman was shown some self-defence techniques.

Forty-five women attended this event with the aim of celebrating being a women and learning some self-defence moves that would enable them to feel free to live the life they have always dreamt of.

From old to young participated in this event.

Sensei Wendy Wannenburg, 6th Dan black belt JKA karateka, Dr Retha Diedericks and Kathrin Trumpelmann demonstrated a woman’s strength to all.

The women were taught that the biggest defence mechanism is awareness, to check your health and body regularly and that when it comes to defending yourself, you need to give it your all at the right time.

“We are what we repeatedly do; excellence then is not an act but a habit,” Kathrin concluded.
